Facilities Manager

Salary (Grade 5) – £28,554 – £31,557 per annum (dependent upon experience)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week – permanent

Location: The National Museum of the Royal Navy based at the Portsmouth Harbour Sites.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy is the UK’s newest national Museum. We are recruiting for an experienced Facilities Manager working within the Operations team based at our Portsmouth Harbour Sites. This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in caring for some of Portsmouth’s oldest buildings and helping to ensure the NMRN’s visitors have a safe, extraordinary and enriching day out. You will manage the work of our Facilities Technicians in delivering planned and reactive maintenance to our Portsmouth Harbour Sites. With a positive attitude and ability to manage and motivate your team, you will work collaboratively with other diverse teams across the museum.

Key Opportunities

Knowledge/Experience

  • Strong Facilities Management background.
  • Experience of working with Facilities Management software.
  • Practical experience of Health and Safety and producing risk assessments.
  • Experience of safe working at height, maintenance of access registers and mobile access equipment.
  • Experience working with the public and having a customer centric approach to completing repairs in a busy environment.
  • Experience of procurement and management of contractors is essential.
  • Knowledge of the legal framework for controlling risks such as fire, asbestos and legionella.

Lead Shipwright - HMS Victory

Salary (Grade 6) – £39,156 – £40,463 per annum (dependent upon experience)

We are recruiting for a full-time Lead Shipwright to join the team working on HMS Victory, as part of the Heritage and Strategic Programmes Directorate. The Lead Shipwright will be joining the team at an exciting stage in the progress of the conservation of HMS Victory, as we embark on a ten-year programme of works to stabilise and preserve the ship.

The work involves management of the Victory’s Shipwright Team to deliver the work to repair Victory’s hull, including replacement of all external planking, from waterline to sheer strake. You will be a senior member of the project team developing and delivering the plan for conservation of the ship. You will bring your skills from similar timber ship conservation projects and apply them to Victory’s conservation.

Team work and communication skills are key aspects of this role to ensure that best practice is applied to all our work.

Key Opportunities

  • Opportunity to lead the team of shipwrights in their works on HMS Victory, which are critical to the future preservation of the ship.
  • Be a key member of the team working to improve and develop the conservation approach to HMS Victory, taking responsibility for ensuring the quality of timber required for shipwright works is met.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Conservation team and within Museum Operations, providing advice and/or practical assistance as appropriate.
  • Opportunity to be part of the team working on the conservation of our internationally important collection of historic ships, with a focus on HMS Victory.

Knowledge/Experience

You will have:

  • Specialist knowledge of the construction, conservation and maintenance of timber historic ships or built heritage. You will have knowledge of the technical properties of timber as relevant to ship building.
  • Experience of leading a team in timber ship conservation.
  • Experience in the production and use of project documentation.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.
  • Experience of leading, managing and motivating staff.
  • A positive attitude and ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Visitor Experience Manager

Salary (Grade 4): £26,364 – £27,437 per annum (dependent upon experience)

Full time Hours: 37.5 Hours per week. Working 5 days over 7, will include regular weekend working.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (PHD) is the home of to some of the world’s most famous ships, including HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. We welcome nearly 1 million visitors each year, who come to soak up our awe-inspiring story of naval and maritime history. We are looking for a Visitor Experience Manager to join our team and help ensure a day out to PHD is extraordinary and memorable.

You will be a champion of good customer service and have an eye for detail. Working as part of a team of Visitor Experience Managers, you will lead, motivate, and inspire your team showing you care about their overall happiness, health, and wellbeing at work. You will act as a positive role model for the operations team supporting them to achieve commercial targets relating to souvenir guidebooks, gift aid conversion, upselling tickets, and retail offer.

You will be responsible for the security of our sites and attractions, our buildings and collections and the safety of our staff and visitors, making sure the site is safe throughout the day and implementing risk assessments; a cool head and a calm manner is a must.

Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have demonstratable knowledge of:

PORTSMOUTH HISTORIC QUARTER VACANCIES

HEAD OF PROJECTS

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 (dependent on experience)

Hours: Full-time, permanent position

Location: Portsmouth & Gosport

Portsmouth Historic Quarter is the custodian of historic buildings, boats and spaces in and around Portsmouth Harbour.  We are an ambitious and collaborative charity, actively creating authentic, educational and enjoyable places, experiences and opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a unique maritime heritage setting, managing the delivery of capital construction and conservation projects across a diverse estate portfolio encompassing Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Priddy’s Hard in Gosport.

You will have full responsibility and accountability for the effective delivery of PHQ’s construction and conservation projects in terms of safety, time, quality and cost.  Projects over coming years will include the restoration of workshops to create artists’ studios; the renovation of a Grade II listed Boathouse to create a performance space, and a £10m plus project to restore a magnificent Grade I listed Storehouse.  You will also be responsible for oversight of long and shorter-term maintenance programmes for PHQ’s estate portfolio.

You will need a proven track record of successful project development and delivery, with experience of pre-construction and construction phases, ideally within a conservation or heritage setting.  You should be able to demonstrate practiced stakeholder management skills and strong financial acumen.
